During Edna’s 23 years as managing director of IMG Artists, she personally looked after the career of violinist, Itzhak Perlman and launched the careers of musicians such as pianists Evgeny Kissin and Lang Lang, violinist Hilary Hahn, and conductors Franz Welser-Mõst and Alan Gilbert.

Edna believes young musicians can grow their own careers, with “hard work, blind faith, passion for the cause, incessant networking and a vision that refuse[s] to be tarnished by naysayers.”

Imani Winds

“Prevailing Winds” highlights past winners of the CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition. Imani Winds (CAG ’01) has been a distinct presence in the classical music world for more than 20 years, garnering a Grammy nomination in 2006 for The Classical Underground. Bassoonist Peter Kolkay (CAG ’02), who enthusiastically collaborates with composers in creating new works for bassoon, is a member of the IRIS Orchestra in Germantown, Tennessee, and has served as guest principal bassoon of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. Pianist Tanya Bannister (CAG ’03), co-founder and artistic director of both AlpenKammerMusik in Austria and Roadmaps Festival in New York City, has served as president of CAG since July 2018. Dedicated to performing neglected and contemporary works for the oboe, Tom Gallant (CAG ’83) is a member of the Ensemble Schumann and artistic director of the chamber music group Frisson. Founded in 2010, the PUBLIQuartet (CAG ’13) is dedicated to promoting emerging composers and presenting new works for string quartet. Composer and music critic Russell Pratt has won numerous awards in both fields; he left his job at the New Yorker in 2018 to join the faculty of the Blair School of Music of Vanderbilt University. Composer Jeff Scott plays French horn with Imani Winds; composer and flutist Valerie Coleman was a founding member of Imani Winds.

Imani Winds: Brandon Patrick George, flute | Toyin Spellman-Diaz, oboe | Jeff Scott, French horn | Mark Dover, clarinet | Monica Ellis, bassoon

PUBLIQuartet: Curtis Stewart and Jannina Norpoth, violins | Nick Revel, viola | Amanda Gookin, cello

Founded in 1951, Concert Artists Guild helps young musicians launch concert careers. Winners of CAG’s annual competition receive comprehensive management support, including a debut recital in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, concert bookings, opportunities through the CAG Commissioning Program and CAG Records label, marketing, publicity, and mentorship. Notable alumni artists include violinists Jennifer Koh and Joseph Lin (Juilliard Quartet), clarinetists David Shifrin and David Krakauer; flutist and MacArthur Fellow Claire Chase; groundbreaking ensembles Imani Winds, the Brasil Guitar Duo, and Sybarite5; and Grammy-winning ensembles Pacifica and Parker String Quartets, Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, and MacArthur Fellow Eighth Blackbird.
