The Colburn School offers a range of resources to help students and alumni plan and build their professional careers. All Conservatory students take two essential classes: the Teaching Musician, which equips them with pedagogy training; and the Working Musician, which offers a number of short courses designed to help them manage their careers as musicians.
The newly formed Center for Innovation and Community Impact offers individual advising and planning to conservatory students, which allows them to tailor their experience to their own needs and goals. Curtis offers several professional bridge programs designed for young artists beginning their professional careers. These include fellowship programs for conductors and string quartets which offer numerous performance opportunities and mentorship from the Curtis faculty and guest artists. The post-graduate Community Artist Fellowship program brings art access and education to underserved communities, while providing training in teaching artistry, interactive performance, and strategic planning.
Alumni resources include access to the Careers in Music Speaker Series at Curtis, which showcases successful artists, industry experts, and ensembles who share their advice and perspective; an online alumni engagement community with access to a directory, discussion boards, and professional opportunity boards; and an alumni e-mail address to maintain a visible presence with Curtis.
The Young Alumni Fund (YAF) is an annual grant program as part of Curtis’s ongoing efforts to strengthen support for alumni in the years that follow graduation and help young alumni who may be experiencing obstacles of any kind in the pursuit of their musical careers. Once awarded, grantees receive advice and support from mentors within the Curtis community.

Training at Guildhall School aims to equip you for the career of your choice. It combines academic rigour and artistic skill with a strong professional focus.
All of our programmes are closely engaged with the professions, through talks and workshops from visiting industry figures, work placements, mentoring, masterclasses and performance collaborations. Many of our teaching staff continue to work on or offstage in their industry, and are well placed to provide insight, advice, and contacts within their profession.
As you move through your programme, your links with the relevant industry will grow. You will receive careers advice within dedicated modules across many programmes, as well as one-to-one guidance from teaching staff and mentors.
Undergraduate musicians take modules which include advice on teaching, business and marketing and professional portfolios. Electives include music administration and workshop skills in hospitals and schools. Postgraduate musicians are required to plan external events and there are also opportunities for placements and artistic programming. The Integration and Professional Development module provides seminars on freelance work as well as opportunities to consider longer-term artistic development. Musicians can attend masterclasses, while relevant specialisms offer mock auditions, side-by-side schemes and mentoring from professional orchestral players.

An intensive four-day audition preparation seminar, involving visiting coaches from major orchestras, is held each year consisting of a series of audition training exercises and private audition coaching, as well as a panel discussion of the audition process from the perspective of the orchestra audition committee. In addition, Fellows organize monthly mock auditions intended to replicate the conditions of professional orchestra auditions, with the occasional participation of guest conductors and coaches. All students at Westminster College of the Arts have access to the resources and assistance offered through the Career Services department at Rider University. Students are also encouraged by their teachers and advisors to explore opportunities in Young Arts Programs and internships, both at Westminster and around the world.
