Oxford Lieder Festival
Oxford Lieder Festival
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
"Nature's Songbook" is the title of the Twentieth Anniversary Oxford Lieder Festival, exploring the manifold appearances of flora, fauna, landscapes, and the elements in poetry and song across the ages. An array of internationally acclaimed singers includes Sarah Connolly, Dietrich Henschel, Thomas Oliemans, Christoph Prégardien, Dorothea Röschmann, Carolyn Sampson, Robin Tritschler, Roderick Williams, and many others, alongside the best emerging artists and a complementary series of chamber music, choral works, and study events.

For many, the past year has led to a strengthened relationship with nature and the Festival will celebrate that: from the recurring motif of water in the songs of Schubert to a new work from Associate Composer Cheryl Frances-Hoad (co-commissioned with the Oxford Botanic Garden in celebration of its 400th anniversary) to a journey around the landscapes of Scandinavia. The historic city of Oxford provides a stunning backdrop for a fortnight comprising over 100 events. In-person attendance is anticipated in the city's many ideal song venues, but Oxford Lieder will also build on its hugely successful online Festival in 2020 and livestream much of the programming, bringing a thrilling and immersive fortnight of exploration, discovery, and inspiration direct to people's homes around the globe.
