Music Academy of the West 2021 Summer School & Festival
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS FESTIVAL
The Music Academy prizes and actively fosters community engagement. $10 Community Access tickets are available for all Summer Festival events, and free tickets are available for young people ages 7 to 17 accompanied by ticketed adults.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
More than 100 fellows from 13 countries study, perform, and participate in master classes with exceptional faculty, teaching artists, and guest speakers, as well as forge close connections with community members through a unique Compeer Program. Fellows and alumni receive invaluable career-advancement opportunities through the Academy's Innovation Institute and its partnerships with the London Symphony Orchestra, led by Sir Simon Rattle, and Beth Morrison Projects. Signature events for audiences will include master classes, chamber concerts by Fellows and faculty ensembles, a program with Michael Tilson Thomas, side-by-side performances, and competitive events including the Solo Piano Competition, Fast Pitch Awards, and a Digital Challenge.

Mosher Guest Artists will be featured in recitals programmed specifically with the Academy community in mind and in master classes with Fellows. These remarkable artists include the cellist and educator known for his profound musicianship and technical mastery, Steven Isserlis; percussionist/composer and 2017 MacArthur Fellow Tyshawn Sorey; two-time Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke, a Music Academy alumna (2002); and Conrad Tao, pianist/composer and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant.
