Our in-person season will be safe, distanced, and full of performances to enjoy in the open-air Benedict Music Tent. Performances include orchestral concerts, recitals, chamber music, opera presentations, and more. In 2021, the AMFS begins significantly highlighting AMELIA (African, Middle Eastern, Latin, Indigenous, and Asian) composers and performers.

SummerScape's 2021 season celebrates one of the most important figures in classical music history with seven weeks of events centered around the 31st Bard Music Festival, "Nadia Boulanger and Her World." Nadia Boulanger was the pioneering Parisian pedagogue, composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and indomitable personality who shaped a generation of American musicians. SummerScape will also present the North American premiere of King Arthur (Le roi Arthus), by Boulanger's compatriot Ernest Chausson, and the world premiere of I was waiting for the echo of a better day, choreographed by Pam Tanowitz with music by Jessie Montgomery.

Camden, Maine, is a destination with a craggy and rugged shoreline along a bay dotted with hundreds of uninhabited islands, and crowned by pined mountains. The musical venues of the Bay Chamber's Screen Door Festival are approachable, sometimes historic, and always New-England-beautiful. This year's festival will be held entirely outdoors at the Camden Amphitheater next door to the public library. Covid precautions apply. While you can get your Bach, Beethoven or Brahms fix at the festival, you will also experience novel, one-of-a-kind creative happenings, shining a light on living composers.

The theme for the 2021 Bergen International Festival is 'This is America?' with American Missy Mazzoli as Festival composer-in-residence. Berkshire Opera Festival's 2021 season will feature the powerful and intimate American work Glory Denied, July 22 and 24 at the beautiful McConnell Theater on Bard College's Simon's Rock campus. Next, BOF will present four cast members from its production of Falstaff in a summer evening concert entitled, "Much Ado About Shakespeare," on the grounds of Edith Wharton's House, also known as The Mount, August 11. BOF's mainstage opera this season, Falstaff, will bring down the house with its hilarious story line and remarkable cast, August 21, 24, 27 at the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center.

The 74th Besançon Music Festival will take place in September. This will also be the year of the 54th International Competition for Young Conductors (chaired by conductor Paul Daniel). Among the artists to discover this year will be the Orchestre National de Lyon, Les Siècles orchestra, pianists Boris Berezovsky, Alexandre Kantorow, and Katia & Marielle Labèque.
