Reaching Towards Summer 2021
Summer 2021 holds promise: by then, having waited for COVID-19 to dissipate, artists will be hungry to perform, rehearse, teach, and/or listen to live music in a shared environment. Fortunately, there are many opportunities being planned, and our annual Guide to Summer Camps, Institutes, and Programs lists nearly 300 possibilities.
The options are plentiful. Some programs specialize in strings only (check out Your Body is Your Strad—no audition required), some in bel canto (in Florence, no less!), some in marimba (Portugal), some in all disciplines (big guns, like Tanglewood and Aspen). There’s also a two-week young women’s (ages 14-19) composers’ camp in Pennsylvania, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t include the Beethoven Bootcamp in Virginia.
With fingers crossed that the pandemic will be a bad and distant memory by then, here’s to summer 2021. |

Every summer's Ljubljana Festival includes a series of master classes, which take place at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet under the internationally recognizable artistic direction of Branimir Slokar. Morningside Music Bridge (MMB) is a scholarship program celebrating its 25th year. MMB nurtures exceptional classical musicians of violin, viola, cello, and piano, aged 12 to 18 on an international stage. MMB offers private lessons, master classes, orchestra, chamber music and numerous recitals.

Opera in the Ozarks offers extensive stage experience with a professional orchestra, coachings, voice lessons, movement, acting, and other instruction to aspiring young artists. All roles are double cast, with at least three performances per cast.
