2021 GUIDE TO SUMMER PROGRAMS

Lake Field Music Camp
Lake Field Music Camp
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Established in 1977, this retreat for adults brings together amateur musicians and an exceptional faculty of 20+ professional musicians for one week of instruction and creativity in a friendly and supportive environment. Singers and instrumentalists build their program from 50+ workshops and ensembles in a variety of genres. Instrumental ensembles range from orchestra and concert band to chamber groups and jazz combos as well as New Orleans, Blues and Klezmer music. Vocal options range from solo and duet workshops to musical theatre and choirs/ensembles for Classical, Jazz, World, and Pop music. Workshops designed for everyone include drumming, handbells, ukulele, vocal basics, rhythm and sight-reading. Concerts by participants and faculty in the evenings offer opportunities to perform or relax and be entertained. Located on a lakeside campus 150 kilometres from Toronto, Canada with full accommodations available. New online workshops to be announced.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS PROGRAM
Supportive music camp for adults of all ages with intermediate to advanced ability. Twenty professional musicians with a diverse range of teaching/performing talents coach more than 50 different ensembles and workshops for instrumentalists and vocalists. Participants and faculty perform in the evening. Full accommodations available. New online workshops coming.
Once in-person camps were ruled out by COVID-19, and recognizing that the camp could not be recreated in an online format, we branded a new experience called "Sky" to complement our "Lake Field Music." Current technology does not support choirs and ensembles, so we re-designed and created new workshops for the Zoom environment such that participants experience two-way communication and feel as though they are taking part in something bigger than a private lesson. We created small and large communities through breakout rooms and fostered talk and chat/text communication. Some workshops actually benefited from the online format, since each participant could practice techniques privately (on mute) whereas a classroom environment would have them playing over each other.
