ABOUT THIS COMPETITION
From July 18-25, 2021, in cooperation with University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, the Guadagnini Foundation will host the 1st Stuttgart International Violin Competition. The partnerships with the HMDK Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra set the stage with excellent artistic conditions and beautiful spaces from the outset.

Violinists of all nationalities who are not older than 28 years of age at the date of the registration deadline are entitled to participate. The decisive date for this is the date of birth specified in the terms and conditions for the respective Competition. Violinists whose teachers are on the jury of the International Violin Competition Stuttgart are excluded from entry.
All participants must personally register on the evening before the first day of the Competition at the Competition Office in Stuttgart, stated in the Competition Terms. The order of the performances of the participants will be determined by the drawing of lots and announced on this day.

Application notes The Competition has 266 applicants from 43 countries. The registration phase for the 1st Stuttgart International Violin Competition ended on July 31, 2020. On October 1, 2020, 24 violinists received an invitation to take part in the competition.
SEMIFINALS (live rounds)
Location: University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart
July 19-20: 1st round of competition; July 21: 2nd round of competition
The two preliminary rounds will take place in the Chamber Music Hall (Kammermusiksaal) of the HMDK Stuttgart with piano accompaniment. Each participant is entitled to an official piano accompaniment free of charge, which will be assigned to him together with the draw of the order of performance. The participants may use another piano accompanist at their own expense.
The jury will select eight participants for the second preliminary round after the first preliminary round of the Competition. These eight participants will compete in the second preliminary round, from which the jury will select the four finalists who will then compete in the final round. The jury's decision will be communicated to the participants at the end of each preliminary round.

July 22: Rehearsals with the Stuttgart Philharmonic for the final round
July 24: Final round with the Stuttgart Philharmonic
July 25: Prize winners concert with the Stuttgart Philharmonic.
The final round will take place on July 24 in the concert hall (Konzertsaal) of the Stuttgart HMDK. The four finalists will be accompanied by the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra during the final round. All Competition rounds are open to the public and can also be followed online worldwide via live stream.

Sole classical vocal competition in the Netherlands that involves opera and oratorio, as well as art song for singer/ pianist duos. Much attention paid to 20th century and contemporary music. In 2003, the Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University established the Michael Ludwig Nemmers Prize in Music Composition, a biennial award honoring classical music composers of outstanding achievement. Northwestern sponsors five Nemmers Prizes, the others in the fields of economics, mathematics, medical science, and Earth sciences.

ELIGIBILITY
The Michael Ludwig Nemmers in Music Composition will be awarded to a classical music composer who shows the highest level achievement in a body of work and a unique creativity. Composers must be nominated, preferably by recognized authorities in the field of classical music, such as prominent artists, critics, scholars, or administrators, via a letter to the Selection Committee. The Prize is international in focus and therefore open to any classical composer without regard to citizenship or institutional affiliation. Only living composers may be nominated. The names of the nominators will not be made public; however, anonymous nominations will not be accepted. Nominators may nominate any number of candidates. Former or present members of the Northwestern University faculty and employees of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra are not eligible for this prize. Nominations may be submitted by email. Email submissions must be emailed from the nominator's professional affiliation. The prize includes a cash award of $100,000. The recipient is expected to participate in two nonconsecutive weeks of residency at the Bienen School of Music interacting with students and faculty.

PianoArts semifinalists perform solo recitals and partner with a Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra violinist or cellist to rehearse and perform duo recitals. SEMIFINALS (live rounds)
Ten pianists, selected as semifinalists, will perform two 45-minute non-eliminating competition recitals in Milwaukee–a solo recital and a collaborative recital in March that includes a violin or cello duo with a partner from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, as well as the first movement of a concerto with a second pianist. Semifinalists also speak about and perform examples from a North American work and a concerto.
FINALS (live rounds)
Three pianists, selected as finalists, will perform complete concertos in live performances with the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra in Milwaukee, WI, in 2021. To prepare for the final round, finalists will rehearse the concerto three times: with the conductor, with a chamber ensemble from the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and with the full orchestra.
