The American Prize is proud to have awarded nearly $100,000 in cash prizes in all categories since 2010.

-First and second prize winners of any previous Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC) are ineligible to apply.*
-Quartets may compete in BISQC a maximum of two times only. Quartets that have already competed twice in BISQC are excluded from participation.*

The 2021 competition is open to all instruments, voice, and chamber ensembles. See website for the full list. Age limits as of March 25, 2021:
- Solo instrumentalists: 28
- Instrumental ensembles (including those with one singer): average age of 30
- Solo singers: 30
- Vocal ensembles: average age of 30
  • If you are over the age limit, you must include a statement explaining why you are in the early stages of your professional career.
  • No individual member of an instrumental ensemble may be aged over 35, and no individual member of a vocal ensemble may be aged over 40.

We are excited to announce the expansion of our international competition programme. For the first time this year we are launching a new International A Cappella Video Competition in which choirs from around the world can enter without needing to travel abroad!
  • The choir is not requested to travel to Cork to participate in the competition.
  • National dress is encouraged if applicable.
  • There should be no verbal announcements at any point during the presentation
  • Finalists will be judged by our international jury.
