The American Pianists Awards are held every two years to discover the best aspiring American jazz or classical pianists. Winners receive cash and two years of career advancement and support valued at over $100,000, making this one of the most coveted prizes in the music world.

SEMIFINALS (live rounds)
Due to the pandemic, the schedule for the 2021 Awards was altered, with the solo recitals moving to an online format. All five finalists were awarded a cash prize of $50,000 to address the dire situation musicians are living with at the moment.
Preliminary round (March 2020): The first juried stage of the American Pianists Awards, the Preliminary round is an anonymous adjudication of nominees by a distinguished panel of musicians. Five finalists are chosen based upon exceptional technical ability and unique musical personality demonstrated in the nominees' submitted recordings.
Solo Recitals (May 23, 2021-June,23 2021): Over the course of five weeks, each finalist performs a solo recital to a livestream audience.
FINALS (live rounds)
Celebration Weekend (June 26-28, 2021): The culmination of the American Pianists Awards, this celebratory weekend brings all five finalists together for adjudicated performances across multiple genres: Friday night chamber music with Dover Quartet; Saturday night concertos with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under maestro Gerard Schwarz; Sunday afternoon solo pieces and the naming of the winner of the Awards and Christel DeHaan Fellowship. All rounds take place in Indianapolis, IN.
