SEMIFINALS (live rounds)
Due to the pandemic, the schedule for the 2021 Awards was altered, with the solo recitals moving to an online format. All five finalists were awarded a cash prize of $50,000 to address the dire situation musicians are living with at the moment.
Preliminary round (March 2020): The first juried stage of the American Pianists Awards, the Preliminary round is an anonymous adjudication of nominees by a distinguished panel of musicians. Five finalists are chosen based upon exceptional technical ability and unique musical personality demonstrated in the nominees' submitted recordings.
Solo Recitals (May 23, 2021-June,23 2021): Over the course of five weeks, each finalist performs a solo recital to a livestream audience. |

FINALS (live rounds)
Celebration Weekend (June 26-28, 2021): The culmination of the American Pianists Awards, this celebratory weekend brings all five finalists together for adjudicated performances across multiple genres: Friday night chamber music with Dover Quartet; Saturday night concertos with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra under maestro Gerard Schwarz; Sunday afternoon solo pieces and the naming of the winner of the Awards and Christel DeHaan Fellowship. All rounds take place in Indianapolis, IN. |
