FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The Arena di Verona, the largest outdoor opera venue in the world, presents its 102nd Festival. From June 13 to September 6, 51 evening events feature the most important performers on the international scene, with hundreds of artists as well as stage sets that are unique in their attention to detail. Offerings include spectacular productions of Nabucco, Aida, La Traviata, Rigoletto, and Carmen as well as “Roberto Bolle & Friends,” “Zorba il Greco,” “Jonas Kaufman in Opera,” Carmina Burana, and “Viva Vivaldi.”

On the stage will be artists from all over the world including Anna Netrebko, Marina Rebeka, Luca Salsi, Ludovic Tèzier, Yusif Eyvazov, Amartüvshin Enkhbat, and many others. Since 1913, the Arena di Verona has welcomed up to 12,000 spectators every night.

"LOUD Weekend" is three days of today's most exciting and adventurous new music in the beautiful Berkshire mountains. Highlights of the 2025 festival include Bang on a Can All-Stars performing Ryuichi Sakamoto's 1996; Shelter, an oratorio-collaboration of Bang on a Can co-founders Michael Gordon, David Lang, and Julia Wolfe, with libretto by Deborah Artman; percussion legend Steven Schick; renowned noise-music duo Wolf Eyes with sound-artist/DJ Maria Chavez; visiting guest composers Jeffrey Brooks, Ted Hearne, Tamar Muskal, Gemma Peacocke, Trevor Weston, plus the many musicians of the Bang on a Can Summer Music Institute, a residency program taking place for the previous three weeks.

The Fisher Center at Bard presents SummerScape 2025 in New York's idyllic Hudson Valley. In two weekends of themed concerts and panels, the 35th Bard Music Festival offers an intensive reexamination of "Martinů and His World" (August 8-17), complemented by the first fully staged American production of Dalibor, a rarely heard opera by Martinů's Czech compatriot Smetana (July 25-August 3). Other festival highlights include the world premiere of Pastoral—a collaborative new Beethoven-inspired commission from choreographer Pam Tanowitz, composer Caroline Shaw, and painter Sarah Crowner (June 27-29)—and the return of Bard's beloved Spiegeltent.

The 2025 festival opens on May 21 with The Great Yes, The Great No by Artist-in-Residence William Kentridge, followed by “Oh To Believe in Another World” on May 24, featuring Dmitri Shostakovich's 10th Symphony and Kentridge's stop-motion film. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato makes her debut on May 25. On May 28 is the world premiere of Terminus, a Norwegian opera by Therese Ulvo and Marit Eikemo. May 28 is Mozart's Requiem performed by all-male choirs and the Bergen Philharmonic, conducted by Jan Willem de Vriend. Festival musician Grete Pedersen conducts the Norwegian Soloists' Choir on May 30. On June 1, pianist Shani Diluka performs at Troldhaugen, and the festival closes on June 4 with the Bergen Philharmonic, conducted by Gemma New, performing Mendelssohn's A Midsummer Night's Dream and Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor.

Summer 2025 marks Berkshire Opera Festival's 10th-anniversary season. Our mainstage production, Verdi's masterpiece La Traviata, comes to the Mahaiwe Performing Arts Center on August 23, 26 and 29. Leading the cast is soprano Vanessa Becerra as Violetta, tenor Joshua Blue as Alfredo, and baritone Darren Drone as Germont. You won't want to miss this incredible new production.

On August 14, also at the Mahaiwe, BOF will present a spectacular 10th-anniversary concert featuring artists from previous and upcoming seasons joined by the BOF Orchestra and Chorus. The season will kick off with a spring recital "Young Verdi in Love" on April 27 at Saint James Place in Great Barrington, MA.
