Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival
Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS FESTIVAL
At the intersection of harmony, humanity, and nature, the Shenandoah Valley Bach Festival gathers internationally-recognized artists and inquisitive audiences to celebrate the life and joy of great music.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
The festival theme, "Creative Inventions," draws inspiration from Bach's keyboard Inventions and from the boundless imagination that shaped his music; the phrase "creative inventions of the mind" fits him perfectly. Bach continually reimagined sound-transforming sacred choral movements into dazzling instrumental concertos, reshaping a concerto for four violins into one for four harpsichords, each version alive with new brilliance. His artistry was invention in motion.

The theme also embraces human ingenuity beyond music. In Bach's era, the Newtonian telescope expanded the heavens and clockmaking refined the measure of time. Centuries later, Voyager I carried The Golden Record into space, featuring more music by Bach than any other composer. Now traveling beyond our solar system, it bears witness to a genius that is, quite literally, out of this world.
