The esteemed Artosphere Festival Orchestra (AFO) returns to Northwest Arkansas in May to delight audiences as the musical centerpiece of the 11th Annual Artosphere: Arkansas' Arts + Nature Festival. Presented by Walton Arts Center and featuring music, film, visual arts, and innovative collaborative performances and events, Artosphere celebrates ways the arts can connect us to the natural world. The AFO features top musicians from around the world who perform symphonic, chamber, and community engagement "pop-up" style performances across the region. Under the baton of internationally acclaimed Maestro Corrado Rovaris and with more than 90 premier musicians from distinguished symphonies and music programs across the globe, AFO performances are held at Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.
This year's Chapel Music Series offers chamber music in local chapels and architectural marvels with groups including Seraph Brass and Jayme Stone, among others.

The dual themes of the 2020 season are "Beethoven's Revolution," celebrating the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, and "Uncommon Women of Note," exploring ambition, desire, and identity through a female lens, and featuring works by Julia Wolfe, Joan Tower, Kaija Saariaho, Melody Eötvös, and a new AMFS commission by Sarah Kirkland Snider. Bard SummerScape's 17th edition celebrates one of the most important female figures in music history, with music, opera, theater, dance, film, and the SummerScape Spiegeltent, centered around the 31st Bard Music Festival. "Nadia Boulanger and Her World" offers a rare and intensive examination of the life and times of the pioneering Parisian pedagogue, composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and indomitable personality who shaped a generation of American musicians and more. Includes concerts, panel discussions, a film series exploring "Nadia Boulanger's Cinematic Influence," and the first fully staged American production of King Arthur (Le roi Arthus), the only opera by her compatriot Ernest Chausson. Daniel Fish directs "Most Happy," a setting of songs from Frank Loesser's 1956 musical, The Most Happy Fella, and New York City Ballet MOVES presents new choreography from Kyle Abraham and Fisher Center Choreographer-in-Residence Pam Tanowitz.

The seven weeks of the 75th-anniversary season (June 20-August 2) pay tribute to the centenary of the Harlem Renaissance, including a collaborative retelling of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream by the Classical Theater of Harlem and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Site-specific programming includes On Site Opera's rendition of Paisiello's The Barber of Seville, and the world premiere of Field of Vision by Michael Gordon. Nico Muhly's new violin concerto, Shrink, will be given its New York premiere by Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto and The Knights. Caramoor is committed to female composers and performers and offers works by Paola Prestin, Anna Clyne, Missy Mazzoli, and more. Karina Canellakis conducts. Jazz includes an opening night with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and the all-day Jazz Festival, headlined by Eliane Elias. The American Roots Music Festival begins a new programming partnership with City Winery, with headliner Taj Mahal and special guest Deva Mahal. FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
CBMF continues to feature distinctive genres including chamber music, contemporary classical works, operas, gypsy jazz, bluegrass classic jazz, and indie rock. The season theme "Not Just Beethoven" celebrates Beethoven's 250th birthday. Highlights include the Ariel Quartet, composer/singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane, the Rhythm Future Quartet, and Argentine guitarist Gonzalo Bergara. Education remains a central component of CBMF's mission, with camps, lectures, and workshops for all ages.
