The esteemed Artosphere Festival Orchestra (AFO) returns to Northwest Arkansas in May to delight audiences as the musical centerpiece of the 11th Annual Artosphere: Arkansas' Arts + Nature Festival. Presented by Walton Arts Center and featuring music, film, visual arts, and innovative collaborative performances and events, Artosphere celebrates ways the arts can connect us to the natural world. The AFO features top musicians from around the world who perform symphonic, chamber, and community engagement "pop-up" style performances across the region. Under the baton of internationally acclaimed Maestro Corrado Rovaris and with more than 90 premier musicians from distinguished symphonies and music programs across the globe, AFO performances are held at Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

The dual themes of the 2020 season are "Beethoven's Revolution," celebrating the 250th anniversary of the composer's birth, and "Uncommon Women of Note," exploring ambition, desire, and identity through a female lens, and featuring works by Julia Wolfe, Joan Tower, Kaija Saariaho, Melody Eötvös, and a new AMFS commission by Sarah Kirkland Snider. The season also marks the inaugural year of the Aspen Opera Theater and VocalARTS program under Co-artistic Directors Renée Fleming and Patrick Summers, presenting The Magic Flute, Ricky Ian Gordon's The Grapes of Wrath, and a semi-staging of Virgil Thomson's The Mother of Us All. Major artists appearing include Gil Shaham, Vladimir Feltsman, Augustin Hadelich, Robert McDuffie, Alisa Weilerstein, the Pacifica Quartet, Seraphic Fire, Sharon Isbin, and many more.

Bard SummerScape's 17th edition celebrates one of the most important female figures in music history, with music, opera, theater, dance, film, and the SummerScape Spiegeltent, centered around the 31st Bard Music Festival. "Nadia Boulanger and Her World" offers a rare and intensive examination of the life and times of the pioneering Parisian pedagogue, composer, conductor, pianist, organist, and indomitable personality who shaped a generation of American musicians and more. Includes concerts, panel discussions, a film series exploring "Nadia Boulanger's Cinematic Influence," and the first fully staged American production of King Arthur (Le roi Arthus), the only opera by her compatriot Ernest Chausson. Daniel Fish directs "Most Happy," a setting of songs from Frank Loesser's 1956 musical, The Most Happy Fella, and New York City Ballet MOVES presents new choreography from Kyle Abraham and Fisher Center Choreographer-in-Residence Pam Tanowitz.

The 73rd Besançon Music Festival will take place in September. Among the artists to discover this year, note the Bern Symphony Orchestra accompanied by Alexandre Kantorow, first French pianist to win the prestigious 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition. A large place is also reserved for the music of our resident composer Camille Pépin.

This summer, the 2020 Blossom Music Festival includes "something for everyone" - classical favorites, the discovery of lesser-known classical treasures, blockbuster films, musical theatre, beloved patriotic tunes, and popular music. Audience-favorite artists and conductors return this season, as well as rising stars and popular guests making debuts. 2020 marks the 10th season of the popular Under 18's Free program, with more than 200,000 young people attending the festival for free since the program's inception. The 2020 season kicks off with the debut of Chamber Orchestra of Europe featuring dazzling pianist Yuja Wang. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra celebrates Dvořák and Mozart, The Fabulous Philadelphians rejoice in the majesty of the mountains with Strauss's epic Alpine Symphony, and superstar Kelli O'Hara joins the renowned New York Philharmonic.

BCMF's 37th season, "We Are Beethoven," features 13 concerts including a JS Bach Composer Portrait narrated by Alan Alda, Sandbox Percussion in a free outdoor event, "The Core Classics" series with works by Zhou Tian, Beethoven, Mendelssohn, and Schubert. The August 5 program offers Beethoven, Spohr, and Caroline Shaw; and August 9 features repertoire by Lowell Liebermann, Arvo Pärt, Beethoven and Mozart. Contemporary and traditional repertoire fills out the schedule, performed by some of chamber music's finest international musicians.

America's longest running festival of new orchestral music celebrates its 57th season with three world premieres, one US premiere, and nine West Coast premieres. The festival is led by Music Director and Conductor Cristian Macelaru, Each summer audiences are joined by both preeminent and emerging composers, an orchestra of dedicated professional musicians, and renowned guest artists from across the globe to give voice to works which are rarely more than a year or two old. With a professional training workshop for early career conductors and composers, open rehearsals, educational programming, and a street fair showcasing local performers and artists, the festival offers dozens of opportunities for meaningful engagement.

The seven weeks of the 75th-anniversary season (June 20-August 2) pay tribute to the centenary of the Harlem Renaissance, including a collaborative retelling of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream by the Classical Theater of Harlem and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Site-specific programming includes On Site Opera's rendition of Paisiello's The Barber of Seville, and the world premiere of Field of Vision by Michael Gordon. Nico Muhly's new violin concerto, Shrink, will be given its New York premiere by Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto and The Knights. Caramoor is committed to female composers and performers and offers works by Paola Prestin, Anna Clyne, Missy Mazzoli, and more. Karina Canellakis conducts. Jazz includes an opening night with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and the all-day Jazz Festival, headlined by Eliane Elias. The American Roots Music Festival begins a new programming partnership with City Winery, with headliner Taj Mahal and special guest Deva Mahal.
