Long Island Concert Orchestra Presents Debut Concert, Celebrating Hometown Heroes, on July 15 at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY

516-586-3433 or jamesarts@att.net The Islip Arts Council and Long Island Concert Orchestra (LICO), David Stewart Wiley, Principal Conductor, will present their upcoming Annual Concert in the Park, and the ensemble’s debut concert, Celebrating Hometown Heroes, on Saturday, July 15 at 8:00 PM at Heckscher State Park in East Islip, NY. This event will also include Fireworks by Grucci. This program features two World Premieres, Rey Burns’s American Tapestry and David Winkler’s Festival Fanfare, along with Bernstein/Mason selections from West Side Story, Gustav Holst’s Mars from The Planets, Copland’s Hoedown from Rodeo, Dvorak’s Finale from Symphony No 9 “from the new world”, Armed Forces Salute, arr. Lowden, Sousa’s El Capitan march and The Stars and Stripes Forever, Rossini’s Allegro from Overture to William Tell, Richard Rodgers Hymn Of Victory, John Williams’s A Prayer for Peace and other selections. Composers Rey Burns, David Winkler, John Philip Sousa, Aaron Copland and John Williams all have strong ties to Long Island. This concert is free and open to the public. LICO principal conductor David Stewart Wiley (http://davidstewartwiley.com/) and Chamber Players International Director David Winkler established LICO last September of 2016 to once again provide Long Island with symphony orchestra programs that have been missing from the region for some years. Maestro Wiley has remarked "how excited we are to once again work with Lynda Moran and the Islip Arts Council as we have annually for close to 8 years.” And David Winkler is pleased to announce “our work with the Islip Arts Council is another step in our mission to provide the entire Long Island Community with accessible and affordable symphony orchestra programs.” Lynda Moran concurred, “We are proud to present the Long Island Concert Orchestra at our Annual Concert in the Park with Maestro David Wiley conducting. This annual tradition that began in 1978 with Lillian Barbash, Founding Director of the Islip Arts Council, continues – now in its 38th year.
