The Boston Camerata, America's preeminent early music ensemble, has announced their 2017-2018 performance season in Boston and on tour. Camerata’s season will include four Boston productions and six touring performances from Basel to Montreal, including the award-winning Tristan & Iseult, with text and music drawn directly from Medieval sources. The Boston-based performances will open with a performance of Liberty Tree: Early Music for the American Soul, featuring jigs, songs, and anthems from the founding of the United States, whose themes recall the rejection of tyranny and the building of a Republic. Camerata will offer two distinct Christmas programs: A Mediterranean Christmas with songs from the countries of the Mediterranean basin: Spain, Italy, southern France, North Africa and the Holy Land; and Carols at Midnight, an abundance of beautiful French Christmas music.
“With the 2017-18 season, the Camerata continues to innovate, create new perspectives, and explore new directions,” says Anne Azéma, Artistic Director. “We involve both seasoned artists and young professionals in our ongoing musical ventures and adventures, both here and abroad.
“The Camerata and I also salute Joel Cohen, our Music Director Emeritus, who is celebrating his 75 birthday this year. His creative energy has inspired much of the musical programming you will hear in the coming months. We continue, with joy, Joel's pioneering efforts. Please join us!”
