The Oberlin Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce a pair of appointments to its student-support administrative staff. Chris Jenkins has been named Assistant Dean for Academic Support, and Dana Jessen has been appointed Director of Professional Development.

Jenkins, a graduate of Harvard University, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, most recently served as a music teacher in Ramallah, Palestine. A violist, he has performed on Broadway and throughout the world with artists ranging from the New York Philharmonic to Diana Ross. In his role at Oberlin, Jenkins offers guidance to students on matters pertaining to coursework and studying.

Jessen, a graduate of Louisiana State University, the New England Conservatory of Music, and Artez Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in the Netherlands, specializes in contemporary composition and improvisation. A classical and jazz bassoonist, she founded the San Francisco chamber ensemble Splinter Reeds and in 2009 launched the New Music Bassoon Fund, dedicated to commissioning large-scale works for bassoon by established composers. At Oberlin, Jessen directs the efforts of the conservatory’s Professional Development Office.
