Chamber Music of Lawrence Dillon Performed by Garth Newel Piano Quartet on October 10 at Herter Hall in Warm Springs, Virginia

Lawrence Dillon’s What Happened for violin, viola, cello, and piano will be presented by the Garth Newel Piano Quartet as part of their October 10 at 7:00 PM Time Travel concert at Herter Hall of the Garth Newell Music Center in Warm Springs, Virginia.

What Happened was commissioned and premiered by the Atlantic Ensemble at the Maison Danoise in Paris, France in May 2005. It consists of three movements – Gathering, Congregation and Scattering, and has been recorded by members of the Daedalus String Quartet and pianist Benjamin Hochman for the Bridge label. Also on the program are William Boyce’s Trio Sonata and Robert Schumann’s Piano Quartet in E-flat major, Op. 47. Performers will be Teresa Ling, violin, Evelyn Grau, viola, Isaac Melamed, cello and Jeannette Fang, piano. More about them at http://www.garthnewel.org/Garth-Newel-Piano-Quartet.aspx.

Lawrence Dillon, a recent recipient of a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship, is Composer in Residence at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He has had recent commissions and performances by the Emerson String Quartet, the Mansfield (OH) Symphony, the Boise Philharmonic, the Salt Lake City Symphony, the Daedalus String Quartet, the University of Utah Philharmonia and the Idyllwild (CA) Symphony Orchestra. He has won awards from ASCAP, the Juilliard School, the Ravinia Festival, the International Horn Society, the American Music Center, CRS and many other organizations.

Naxos has issued Lawrence Dillon Violin Music (Catalogue No: 8.559644), featuring seven chamber works performed by violinist Danielle Belen, 2008 Grand Prize Winner of the Sphinx Competition.
