American Chamber Ensemble Presents Spanish Masterworks Featuring Guitarist Rene Izquierdo - April 19 at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York

Hempstead, NY - The critically-acclaimed American Chamber Ensemble will perform its Spring Spanish Music Masterworks concert on Sunday, April 19 at 3:00 PM when the Music Department of Hofstra University presents the ensemble at The Helene Fortunoff Theater of Monroe Lecture Center on California Avenue on the University’s south campus in Hempstead. Guest Artist will be Cuban guitarist Rene Izquierdo.

Selections will include Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez for guitar and piano, Piazzolla’s Milonga del Angel for piano. clarinet and cello, Danzon for piano, clarinet and cello by Paquito D'Rivera, Suite Espagnole for guitar and cello by de Falla and Carlos Surinach’s Quartet for violin, viola, cello and piano.

Performers will be pianist Blanche Abram, clarinetist Naomi Drucker and pianist Marilyn Lehman, with violinist Eriko Sato and cellist Chris Finckel.

Rene Izquierdo, a native of Cuba, graduated from the Guillermo Tomas, Amadeo Roldan Conservatory and Superior Institute of Art in Havana. In the U.S., he earned a Master of Music and an Artist Diploma degrees from the Yale University School of Music, where he studied with Benjamin Verdery.

Mr. Izquierdo is a recipient of numerous awards. He is a winner of JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Competition in 2004, Extremadura International Guitar Competition, Schadt String competition, Stotsenberg International Guitar Competition among others. He is currently a professor of classical guitar at the Wisconsin State University in Milwaukee and an active solo performer and chamber musician. Visit him at http://www.reneizquierdoguitar.com/.

The American Chamber Ensemble explores the great chamber music literature for clarinet and piano in combination with strings, woodwinds and voice and presents performances featuring world-class artists. ACE consists of the finest freelance musicians in the New York area and has been cited by critics for their superb presentations of chamber masterworks. Their latest CDs on Elysium are American Clarinet Treasures, featuring core members of ACE performing works by George Kleinsinger, Virgil Thomson, Daniel Gregory Mason, Elliott Carter, Douglas Moore and Gary Schocker, with guest artist Stanley Drucker and The American Chamber Ensemble Plays Peter Schickele, which features five of this modern master’s most important chamber works.

ACE’s concert season is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature, along with private donations. It is also supported by a grant from The Long Island Music Hall of Fame.
