9th Latin American Cultural Week Opens November 1 and Runs Through November 9

New York, NY - Pan American Musical Art Research (PAMAR), founded and directed by Polly Ferman, presents the 9th Latin American Cultural Week (LACW), November 1 through 9. This will be a diverse and dynamic showcase of the rich culture of Latin America throughout New York City, with more than 40 theater, music, dance, film and visual arts presentations.

This is presented in celebration of PAMAR’s 30th Anniversary.

LACW 2014 highlights will include opening event, Calpulli Mexican Dance Company, presenting Dia de los Muertos at Manhattan’s Aaron Davis Hall of City College Center for the Arts and the third year of Celebracion de la Cultura Hispana in Manhattan’s Washington Heights.

Other LACW highlights will be theater, music, dance, film and visual arts presentations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and The Bronx.

November 1 at 2:00 and 7:00 PM - LACW 2014’s Opening Event - Calpulli Mexican Dance Company making its debut at Aaron Davis Hall of City College Center for the Arts, 160 Convent Ave. in Manhattan. The program, Dia de los Muertos, with live music, evokes the unending relationship between the living and the departed. Visit Calpulli at http://www.calpullidance.org/.

November 6 at 9:00 PM - Corcho Presents Women in Latin Jazz Uptown Kickoff - Corcho Wine Room & AAA Beans Presents Annette A. Aguilar and StringBeans (http://www.aguilarstringbeans.com/) Latin Brazilian Jazz Ensemble at El Corcho Wine Room, 227 Dyckman St. in Manhattan. Donations will be gladly accepted. November 7 at 6:30 PM -WHIN Music Project - El Sistema in The Heights Concert - Inspired by the renowned Venezuelan orchestral program known as El Sistema, the Washington Heights and Inwood (WHIN) Music Project was founded in August 2012 and became the first El Sistema program for the Northern Manhattan communities, serving since then an average of 150 students per week (ages 4 to 18). El Sistema in the Heights Concert will be an opportunity to hear their most advanced orchestras and ensembles. Performance at Our Saviour´s Atonement Lutheran Church, 178 Bennett Ave. in Manhattan. PAMAR's annual LACW reaches out to more than 500,000 individuals through a worldwide promotional and marketing campaign. It is funded in part by a grant from the NYC & Company Foundation. This program is also supported, in part, by public funds from The New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. The NoMAA Capacity Building Grant Program is made possible by the JPMorgan Chase Foundation and the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation. This project is also made possible in part with public funds from the Fund for Creative Communities, supported by the New York State Council on the Arts and administered by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, and is also supported by the Latin Media and Entertainment Commission of the City of New York.
