Boston, Ma. Emmanuel Music’s 2014-15 season will shine the spotlight on composers at the crossroads of stylistic change — from one of Mendelssohn’s early masterpieces, Sinfonia No. 2 in D Major; to the piece that would put Mozart on the opera map, Abduction from the Seraglio; to Bach’s most controversial masterwork, St. John Passion, BWV 245; and performances of Wolf’s entire 53 Mörike lieder ; as well as the East Coast premiere of the chamber orchestration of Harbison’s Crossroads based upon poet Louise Glück's A Village Life.
In just four short years at the helm of Emmanuel Music, Artistic Director Ryan Turner has taken the professional orchestra and chorus featuring some of the country’s most in-demand soloists, to new heights. From the standing-room-only performances of their Boston premiere of The Great Gatsby at Jordan Hall and the Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, Massachusetts, to the critically acclaimed performances of Stephen Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Emmanuel Music under the direction of Mr. Turner continues to traverse new ground while firmly keeping Bach as their core companion, and proving themselves, once again, to be one of Boston’s most cherished and enduring ensembles.
Emmanuel Music’s 2014-2015 season will also initiate a Mendelssohn/Wolf Chamber Series, feature the 44th season of the Bach Cantata Series, and the free Thursday Lindsey Chapel Series that will explore the complete Bach violin partitas BWV 1001 – 1006. The Bach Institute, with master classes, lectures and performances open to the public, will be held January 9–26, 2015.
Tickets for the 2014–15 season are on sale now at emmanuelmusic.org or by calling 617-536-3356.
