The New York Virtuoso Singers Present New American Choral Works on March 20

The New York Virtuoso Singers, Harold Rosenbaum, Conductor and Artistic Director, will present four new American choral works and the New York Premiere of Milton Babbitt’s Music for the Mass on Sunday, March 20 - 3:00 PM at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, West End Avenue at 87th Street in Manhattan. There will be a special pre- concert talk with the composers at 2:15 PM.
The all-professional choir will present new, unpublished works by NYVS Choral Composition Competition winners Nicholas Reeves, Richard Rice, Frank Stemper and Kurt Leland. These were selected from over 400 entries by composers across the U.S.
The concert will also feature the New York Premieres of the newly released Music for the Mass, a tonal masterpiece written by the late American master Milton Babbitt over 70 years ago and a new work by former competition winner Richard McIntyre.
Special guest performers will be pianist Christopher Oldfather, organist Walter Hilse and the Canticum Novum Youth Choir, Edie Rosenbaum, Director, who will perform the McIntyre work.
Tickets for the March 20 concert are $25 and $15 for students and seniors over 65. For tickets, call TicketCentral at 212- 279-4200 (no surcharge), or go to http://www.nyvirtuoso.org/. Tickets will also be available at the door one-hour before the concert.
Founded in 1988 by conductor Harold Rosenbaum, The New York Virtuoso Singers has become this country's leading exponent of contemporary choral music. Although the chorus performs music of all periods, its emphasis is on commissioning, performing and recording the music of American composers. The choir appears on 17 commercial CD's.
