Quintet of the Americas in Concert on February 3 at Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum in Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, NY

Quintet of the Americas, Queens’ renowned woodwind quintet, will be in concert on Sunday, February 3 @ 3:00 PM at Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, 895 Shore Road, Pelham Bay Park, Bronx, NY, as part of the Composers Now Festival.  

The international program will include Gershwin’s Three Preludes (arranged by William Hoyt), Xinyan Li’s Mo Suo's Burial Ceremony, Arturo Marquez’s Danza de mediodia, Gunther Schuller’s Blues from Suite, the Premiere of James Cohn’s Sourwood Mountain Variations, Ricardo Romaneiro’s Ventos, and Valerie Coleman’s Tzigane.

Composers Now celebrates living composers, and honors the diversity of their voices and the significance of their contributions to the cultural fabric of society. The Festival brings together performances presented by venues, ensembles, orchestra, opera, musical theater and dance companies as well as many other innovative events through New York City. Composers are in attendance at all events which are open to the public, from jazz to indie, from classical to electronic and beyond. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members of the Quintet are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Benjamin Baron, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn, and Sasha Enegren, bassoon. They are currently in residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in The Steinhardt School at New York University.
