Applications now open for the 2019 Concert Artists Guild Competition

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN FOR THE 2019 CONCERT ARTISTS GUILD VICTOR ELMALEH COMPETITION

Concert Artists Guild announces that applications for the 2019 Victor Elmaleh Competition are now open. The Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition is an annual competition open to instrumentalists, singers, and chamber ensembles. The application has changed this year, as CAG seeks young musicians who not only exemplify artistic excellence and engagement with their audience, but who also have an entrepreneurial spirit and will go on to create an impact in the world.

“CAG looks forward to partnering with the highest level of musicians, people who are enthusiastic about moving beyond the concert hall and their own instrument, using music in order to make a difference,” says CAG President Tanya Bannister, herself a winner of the 2003 Competition.

Soloists and ensembles are invited to apply online. Full eligibility details and repertoire requirements can be found at concertartists.org/competition.

Important dates

The earlybird application deadline is March 31 (save $40 on the application fee).

The final application deadline is April 14 at 11:59pm EST.

The live Semifinal rounds of the Competition will be held in New York City October 3 and 4.

The live Final round will take place at Merkin Concert Hall on October 6.

Victor and Sono Elmaleh First Prize of $5,000

All winners receive:

•      New York showcase performance livestreamed by the Violin Channel
•      Professional career development and coaching

Additional prizes include:

• Carnegie Hall recital prize
• BMI commissioning prize
• Chamber Music America showcase performance
• Yamaha recording prize
• more than 40 Performance Prizes with leading orchestras, concert series and festivals

General information

Founded in 1951, Concert Artists Guild helps young musicians launch their careers. Winners of CAG’s annual competition receive comprehensive management support including a debut recital in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, concert bookings, opportunities through the CAG Commissioning Program and CAG Records label, marketing, publicity, and mentorship. Notable alumni artists are violinists Ani Kavafian and Jennifer Koh, soprano Martina Arroyo, clarinetists David Krakauer and David Shifrin, flutists Carol Wincenc and Marina Piccinini, Imani Winds, Grammy-winning ensembles Pacifica and Parker String Quartets, and MacArthur Fellows Claire Chase and Eighth Blackbird.
