Worldwide electronics leader Samsung endowed a scholarship fund of $5 million to be administered by The American Legion in 1996. Meant to show appreciation for U.S. veterans who came to Korea's aid during its struggle against communist forces in the Korean War, the Samsung American Legion Scholarships are restricted to high school juniors who complete either a Boys State or Girls State program and are a direct descendant - i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc. - or a legally adopted child of a wartime veteran who served on active duty during at least one of the periods of war officially designated as eligibility dates for American Legion membership.

Samsung scholarships may be used for undergraduate or graduate and applied toward tuition, books, fees, and room and board. Winners are selected according to academic record, involvement in school and community activities, community service and financial need. Applicants who are direct descendants of Korean War veterans will receive a modest points advantage.

Created in celebration of W.C. Handy's 125th birthday, this scholarship, funded by the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation, is awarded to a student at Mt. Vernon High School, based on abilities in music performance and composition, who has been accepted to an accredited college or university. Music faculty at the school select the recipient.

This scholarship was created to honor the classic lyricist, Ira Gershwin. Mr. Gershwin was educated in the New York City public school system and this annual award serves to honor an outstanding junior year student at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art, a public school in New York City. The student is selected by the music faculty at the school. This scholarship is funded by a gift to The ASCAP Foundation from the Ira & Leonore Gershwin Philanthropic Fund.

Each year, the Friends of the California State Fair Student Scholarships help our state’s most promising students achieve their goals and realize their dreams by granting scholarships to a broad range of academic studies. They are presented to college students and graduating high school seniors who exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential, civic accomplishments and a strong sense of personal commitment to continuing their education.

Multiple scholarships are awarded for 14 categories ranging from $1,000 – $2,500 each. The competition is for amateur jazz musicians who are high school seniors or students in the first 3 years of college. A primary requisite is that the applicants are interested in furthering their studies in jazz music. Applicants must be residents of, or attend/plan to attend a college in Central Florida: Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard or Volusia counties. There is no age restriction. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary young people, 18 and under, who have completed a significant piece of work. Application categories are Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy and Outside the Box. Davidson Fellows are honored every year in Washington, D.C. with Congressional meetings and a special reception.

The Nickels for Notes $500 Scholarship is awarded to high school seniors who will major in piano, instrument, music education, music therapy or voice. The award is for tuition only and will be sent directly to the recipient’s college. Applicants must be seniors at a Massachusetts high school, or home-schooled and have achieved the standards for graduation set by the town of residence.

A $500 scholarship is also given in the name of the Dorchester Woman's Club for undergraduates majoring in voice. The award is for tuition only and will be sent directly to the recipient’s college. Applicant must be Massachusetts residents and undergraduates currently enrolled in a four-year accredited college, university or school of music, majoring in voice.

The Iowa Scholarship for the Arts supports the development of an outstanding Iowa high school senior who excels and demonstrates a commitment to pursuing an education and career in the arts. You must plan to attend college in Iowa and major in the fine arts. Application Deadline: February 1st, annually.

The Music Teachers National Association holds five different student competitions each year at the state, division, and national levels. These include the Student Composition Competition (elementary only. Age: 5–10 as of January 1); Junior Competitions (composition, piano, string and woodwind. Age: 11–14 as of January 1); Senior Competitions (composition, brass, piano, string, voice and woodwind. Age: 15–18 as of January 1); Young Artist Competitions (composition, brass, piano, string, voice and woodwind. Age: 19–26 as of January 1); and the Chamber Music Competition (string and wind. Age: average age of ensemble members must be 18–26 as of January 1).

First-place winners of each state's competitions compete at the division level. Division winners compete as finalists in the national competitions. All finalists receive merit awards. Teachers of winners also receive monetary awards.

• The Music for the Blind Performance Awards is for students who have reached the 10th, but not the 19th birthday by application deadline. Two $200 awards in each of the five NFMC Regions. Deadline for application is 1 March.
• The W. Paul Benzinger/Valentin Music for the Blind Performance Award is for students who have reached the 14th birthday by application deadline. One $200 award in each of the five NFMC Regions. Deadline for application is 1 March.
• Stillman Kelley/Thelma Byrum Awards. The student must not have reached the 19th birthday by March 1. 1st place: $1,000; 2nd place: $500; 3rd place $350. Byrum Award for further study 5 regional awards @ $200 each. Deadline for application is 1 February.
• Lana M. Bailey Piano Concerto Award is for a high School Senior who has not reached the 19th birthday by May 1. 1st Place: $800; 2nd Place: $200. Deadline for application is 1 May.
• The Marilyn Caldwell Piano Award is for high school students in grades 10-11-12. Awards: 1st place: $800; 2nd place: $300. Deadline for application is 1 March.
• The Claire Ulrich Whitehurst (Flanagan) Piano Award is for high school students in grades 10-11-12 who not have reached 18th birthday by application deadline. Award: $500 for further study. Deadline for application is 1 March in even-numbered years.
• The Mary Alice Cox Strings Award is for students who have not reached the 19th birthday as of application deadline. Awards: 1st Place: $1,800; 2nd Place: $1,300; 3rd Place: $800. Deadline for application is 1 March.
• The Wendell Irish Viola Award is for students who have reached the 12th, but not the 19th birthday by application deadline. Awards: 1st Place: $1,000; 2nd Place: $750. One $250 award in each of the five NFMC Regions. Deadline for application is 1 February.
• Martha Marcks Mack Junior Vocal Award is for high school students in grades 10-11-12. Must not have reached the 19th birthday by application deadline. Awards: 1st Place: $1,500; 2nd Place: $500. Deadline for application is 1 March.

Up to $10,000 in cash awards, Classical Music is open to orchestral instrumentalists, pianists, and composers. The strongest auditions demonstrate excellence in the craft of playing or writing, the ability to reveal the nuances of each work, versatility, and a truly personal style. Applicant must be a citizen of the United States or permanent resident/green card recipient (copy of documentation is required in the application) 15-18 years of age or in grades 10-12 on December 1. YoungArts winners in their senior year of high school are eligible for nomination as U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts, the nation's highest honor for young artists.

The School Band and Orchestra magazine sponsors a yearly scholarship contest that requires participants to compete with a written essay for a one of 10 awards for $1,000. The contest is open to students from Grade 4 through high school, and is also open to home school students.

The scholarship is open to all Mississippi high school seniors, who sing, dance or play a musical instrument. Submit MP4 video on a flash drive or upload to YouTube. The student must be planning to attend college.

Each year, in perpetuity, a deserving young trumpeter will audition for and receive a generous scholarship to follow such pursuits as additional studies, music camp and festival attendance. ​Applications are open to trumpet performance major students ages 25 and under having completed their second year of undergraduate study and living in California.

Scholarship awards are available to residents and students of California who demonstrate exceptional musical talent. Applications are open to pianists, vocalists, winds, and strings, ages 8 through 26. If an applicant is not a U.S. citizen and is under age 18, the applicant's parents must live in California.
