WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS FESTIVAL
The annual Honens Festival is one of Canada's premier classical music events, intended to share Esther Honens' love of world-renowned music with Canadians every year. With events and concerts for every age, the Honens Festival offers a broad range of programming with something for everyone.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
This year's Festival includes a number of exciting performances—
  • Storytellers: newly commissioned arrangement of The Hockey Sweater for the whole family
  • Garrick Ohlsson: with works by Brahms and Chopin
  • Xenia Concert: high-quality classical concert designed to be accessible to children on the autism spectrum
  • Luca Buratto & Szymon Nehring with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra: 2015 Honens Prize Laureate and 2017 Rubinstein Competition winner perform a program of Mozart, Strauss, and Liszt with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Karina Canellakis.
  • Bison Noir: An after-hours cabaret-style performance hosted by Artistic Director Jon Kimura Parker
  • Masterclasses: Visiting pianists Ingrid Fliter and Inon Barnatan instruct and inspire music students from across Canada.
  • Open Air: Bask in the warmth of the September sun while listening to an outdoor chamber music concert. Bring your sunglasses, picnic basket, and blanket ... and don't forget the kids!
