Established through Royal Napoleonic Decree in 1807 and inaugurated the following year, the Conservatory of Milan has been one of the most important institutions for the study of music. It is acclaimed nationally and internationally and is an integral part of the Italian university system. The Conservatory of Milan trains instrumentalists, singers, and composers to the highest didactic standards and now is also a prolific production centre with its own important role in the city and national music scene.

Internationally recognized, the Milan Conservatoire is Italy’s leading music school and the place where music becomes a profession. It is the only conservatoire in Italy to have a symphony orchestra, a big band, and professional, permanent ensembles specializing in electronic music, early music, and contemporary music.

The Student Office and the International Relations Office provide students and alumni with career guidance and job-placement services, including opportunities for internships and employment at a range of local musical institutions, such as theatres, orchestras, and concert societies. Through its numerous and diverse production activities, the Conservatory also provides its most talented students with valuable opportunities to showcase their abilities and gain professional exposure through performances in Milan and elsewhere in Italy and abroad. Furthermore, within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, students are offered the opportunity to undertake internships at leading musical institutions across Europe.
