WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS FESTIVAL
70 years of experience in running a young artist festival with over 3,000 alumni, many of whom are now singing on the best stages in the world. We are the only summer opera festival of its type in the south central states.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
Opera in the Ozarks is a unique summer music festival in beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Founded in 1950, it has also earned the reputation of being a prominent training program for emerging opera professionals—alumni have gone on to sing on the world's major operatic stages.
Each summer, audiences look forward to a vivid repertoire of well-loved operas spotlighting the exceptional voices of tomorrow's operatic stars, accompanied by an orchestra of gifted musicians. Performing under the baton of Artistic Director Thomas Cockrell, dozens of professional artists and musicians come from all across the country to present a month of performances.
The 2020 performance Season spans June 19 thru July 17, featuring Massenet's Cendrillon, Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor, and Ward's The Crucible—presenting a total of 21 performances of these fully staged operas. All mainstage operas take place at Inspiration Point in Eureka Springs.
There will also be multiple performances of a children's opera—as well as two performances of a Broadway cabaret, two performances of a chamber music program, and a Taste of Opera event (dinner). Locations vary throughout the multi-county region for these outreach events.
