Opera in the Ozarks
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS FESTIVAL
67 years of experience in running a young artist festival with over 3,000 alumni, many of whom are now singing on the best stages in the world. We are the only summer opera festival of its type in the south central states.
FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS
Opera in the Ozarks is a unique summer music festival in beautiful Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Founded in 1950, it has also earned the reputation of being a prominent training program for emerging opera professionals - alumni have gone on to sing on the world's major operatic stages.
Each summer, audiences look forward to a vivid repertoire of well-loved operas spotlighting the exceptional voices of tomorrow's operatic stars, accompanied by an orchestra of gifted musicians. Performing under the baton of Artistic Director Thomas Cockrell, dozens of professional artists and musicians come from all across the country to present a month of performances.
The 2018 Season spans June 22 thru July 20, featuring Johann Strauss Jr.'s Die Fledermaus, Gioachino Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia, and Douglas Moore's The Ballad of Baby Doe, for a total of 22 performances of these fully staged operas. Most of the mainstage operas take place at Inspiration Point in Eureka Springs, with three performances being staged at Arts Center of the Ozarks in Springdale.
There will also be 11 performances of Cinderella, this year's children's opera, as well as an Opera Scenes program, a Taste of Opera event (dinner and cabaret style music, followed by opera), and a Chamber Music program. Locations vary throughout the multi-county region for these outreach events.
