ABOUT THIS COMPETITION
The Washington International Competition for piano, voice, strings, and composition occurs annually each spring in three-year rotation: 2025 Strings & Composition, 2026 Voice, 2027 Piano. Semifinalists receive feedback from distinguished jurors. Winners receive substantial cash awards and the opportunity to perform in recital or as soloist with orchestras in prestigious Washington venues.

ELIGIBILITY
WIC Strings open to violinists, violists and cellists, ages 18 to 30 as of May 23, 2025. WIC Composition open to composers, ages 18 to 35. Applicants must not be under professional management. Previous first-prize winners of the competition and current students of the judges may not apply. See more information here.

Application notes In the preliminary round of the competition, the preliminary jury will review submissions and select approximately 30 semifinalists, who will be invited to perform live before a distinguished panel of internationally renowned jurors in the semifinal round.

May 23- 24, 2025—violin, viola, and cello, The George Washington University, Washington, DC
FINALS (live rounds)
May 25, 2025—violin, viola and cello. The winning composition will be performed by professional musicians from the Washington, DC, area during the WIC Strings finals, The Terrace Theater of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, DC.
