ABOUT THIS COMPETITION
The Olga Kern International Piano Competition will take place October 23-30, 2022. The final round will feature the Competition's finalists in performances with the New Mexico Philharmonic. In addition to a cash prize, the winner will be awarded concert engagements throughout the US and Europe and a professional recording.

Open to pianists of all nationalities who will be between 18 and 32 years old on October 30, 2022.

Application notes Deadline is 11:59 pm EST, April 4, 2022. Application fee: $210 ($180 plus $30 application fee). Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Submitted materials will not be returned. Candidates' documents and recordings will be assessed by the Screening Jury. The Screening Jury will admit 20-24 contestants to compete in the First Round held virtually and streamed June 29 - July 3, 2022. The list of 8-10 candidates invited to the live rounds of the competition taking place in Albuquerque, NM, October 23-30, 2022, will be announced by July 6, 2022.
SEMIFINALS (live rounds)
The in-person rounds including the semifinal chamber music round will take place at Immanuel Presbyterian Church and one other venue in Albuquerque, NM. The first in-person round will consist of (1) work(s) of contestant's choice; (2) a required piece 5 to 6 minutes long (sent prior to the competition to contestants on August 1, 2022) and written specifically for the Olga Kern International Piano Competition. The semifinal chamber music round will consist of a performance of a chamber music work for piano and another instrument.
FINALS (live rounds)
The final round of the competition will take place at Popejoy Hall, Albuquerque, NM, and will consist of contestant's choice of one of the following concerti for piano and orchestra:
  • Béla Bartók: Piano Concerti Nos. 2 or 3
  • Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerti Nos. 3, 4, or 5
  • Johannes Brahms: Piano Concerti Nos. 1 or 2
  • Frédéric Chopin: Piano Concerti Nos. 1 or 2
  • George Gershwin: Concerto in F
  • Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in a minor
  • Franz Liszt: Piano Concerti Nos. 1 or 2
  • Sergei Prokofiev: Piano Concerti Nos. 1, 2, or 3
  • Sergei Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerti Nos. 1, 2, or 3, or Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini
  • Maurice Ravel: Piano Concerto in G Major
  • Robert Schumann: Piano Concerto in a minor
  • Alexander Scriabin: Piano Concerto in f-sharp minor
  • Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Piano Concerti Nos. 1 or 2
