PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
The Philadelphia International Music Festival (PIMF) offers student musicians the unique opportunity of spending up to four weeks immersed in performance training with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra.
Our Orchestra and Chamber Music Intensive Programs include: daily orchestra and chamber music rehearsals; daily course electives including: conducting, choir, composition, sight reading, music theory, ear training, fiddle music, and jazz; daily private practice hours; solo performance and competition opportunities; day trips to Ocean City, New Jersey (America’s Favorite Family Beach Resort), Philadelphia’s Mann Center for a Philadelphia Orchestra outdoor concert, and more.
Our Solo Performance Programs include three-five weekly private lessons; daily 30-minute coaching sessions with assigned faculty accompanist; daily solo performance class; four hours of required, daily private practice; daily afternoon chamber music rehearsals, and more.
All programs include private lessons, master classes, and faculty recitals with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, as well as ample solo performance and competition opportunities. Competition winners perform on-stage duo concertos with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra under the baton of Kensho Watanabe, Assistant Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra. Select winners also perform as soloists with one of our community or professional orchestra partners.
PIMF includes separate programing ("Music House") for college students and young professionals. Music House is conducted by Kensho Watanabe, Assistant Conductor of The Philadelphia Orchestra, and also includes: daily chamber music coachings with members of The Philadelphia Orchestra, repertory orchestra rehearsals with exposure to works regularly found on major orchestral auditions; individual mock auditions with Maestro Watanabe; concerto competitions; and ample solo performance opportunities.
PIMF and Music House are held on the estate-like grounds of Bryn Mawr College, named one of the 30 most beautiful college campuses in the U.S. by Travel & Leisure Magazine.
PIMF is attended annually by student musicians from throughout the U.S. and around the globe.
