2018 GUIDE TO SUMMER PROGRAMS

Longwood Organ Academy
Longwood Organ Academy
Longwood Gardens
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
Program highlights include private lessons and studio classes with esteemed instructors Peter Richard Conte and Alan Morrison, rehearsals on the Longwood Organ, master classes, workshops on symphonic organ transcriptions, trips to prominent local organs, and a student performance on the Longwood Organ.
The Longwood Organ is composed of 10,010 pipes divided into 146 ranks and is the largest Aeolian organ ever constructed in a residential setting. Pierre S. du Pont was an organ aficionado who, in 1930, replaced the original Longwood organ with a much larger, custom-designed Aeolian model that remains in Longwood's Conservatory to this day.
WHAT DISTINGUISHES THIS PROGRAM
Designed as a summer academy for college students, Longwood Gardens provides students with the unique opportunity to study organ transcriptions on one of the world's largest symphonic organs. During the week-long Organ Academy, students will study with renowned instructors, participate in master classes, and visit other incredible organs.
