Experience the Timeless Beauty of Handel’s Messiah arranged by Mozart: A Spectacular Concert conducted by Maestro Jonathan Griffith, presented by DCINY, December 1, 2024, Carnegie Hall
New York, NY (October 21, 2024)—Distinguished Concerts International, New York (DCINY) is proud to present special Christmas portions of George Frideric Handel’s celebrated oratorio Messiah, conducted by the esteemed Jonathan Griffith, DCINY’s Principal Conductor and Artistic Director, with arrangements by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This extraordinary event will take place on December 1, 2024, at 2 pm at the iconic Carnegie Hall offering audiences a profound musical experience during the holiday season. Special guest Santa Claus will welcome audience members. For information and tickets, visit Carnegie Hall. Tickets start at $20.
Maestro Griffith, known for his dynamic conducting style and innovative interpretations, will lead a talented ensemble of vocalists and musicians in this timeless masterpiece. The performance will feature Mozart’s unique orchestration, which retains the structure of Handel’s original but infuses it with the classical elegance and characteristics of Mozart’s compositions. “I am thrilled to be conducting this beloved oratorio in such a historic venue as Carnegie Hall,” said Griffith. “Combining Handel’s sublime music with Mozart’s brilliant arrangements creates an unforgettable experience that transcends time and speaks to audiences of all ages.”
Messiah is renowned for its powerful arias and the iconic “Hallelujah” chorus, which has resonated with audiences for centuries. Mozart’s reorchestration emphasizes woodwinds, horns, and strings and introduces parts for clarinets, creating an intimate sound. He made selective changes to the vocal lines and added embellishments, allowing singers greater expressiveness. His stylistic choices reflect a lyrical interpretation emphasizing melodic beauty while introducing operatic qualities. This results in a polished and accessible interpretation that honors Handel’s baroque roots.
Performed by Penelope Shumate, Soprano, Holly Sorensen, Mezzo-Soprano, Chad Kranak, Tenor and Christopher Job, Bass-Baritone with the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and the Distinguished Concerts Singers International, this performance is set to inspire and uplift as it captures the essence of celebration during the holiday season.
Don’t miss this chance to witness a grand interpretation of classical music's greatest works, conducted by one of today’s leading maestros.
