Going Global with The Wee Cooper of Fife

THE WEE COOPER OF FIFE GOES GLOBAL

In 1948 a young man named James Douglas came up with the idea of a new party piece for a Badminton Club social, this was called The Wee Cooper of Fife. The piece was based on the traditional song The Wee Cooper of Fife and James decided that the Wee Cooper (traditionally a man who made Barrels for the whisky industry) would go on his travels around the world in a Story with Music. Since then, the Wee Cooper of Fife by James Douglas has been performed at every concert he has ever given, as an encore, or as a party piece if you will. It varies every single time it is heard and now after 73 years of performances, it will be available worldwide digitally.

In 2008 this was released on a Commercial CD, along with 8 other tracks by James Douglas, on a CD called ‘Nocturnal’ by Caritas Records (Ullapool). And now in November 2021, James has just released ‘The Wee Cooper of Fife’ as a Single download on iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, YouTube Music and Spotify. See this time where ‘The Wee Cooper of Fife’ takes you? From Britain to Beijing, from London to Paris or from Vienna to New York City, who can say?

James Douglas is delighted and amazed that at nearly 90 years old, his music is continuing to grow and be recognised globally.
