New York – Ekstasis Duo (cellist Natasha Farny and pianist Eliran Avni) celebrate the return to live concerts in the classical music world with performances throughout New York, and in Maryland and Arizona. Their season kicks off in September with the first performance of their curated program, "...From the Shadows, " a compelling concert of moving works by underrepresented composers Lili Boulanger, Henriette Bosmans, George Walker, Alma Mahler, and Alexander Zemlinsky. Of special note is the premiere this spring 2022 of composer Avner Dorman's Double Concerto (formal title to be announced), written specifically for them. Made possible by a generous donation from Chris Granger and the Fredonia Foundation, and consortium members Sewanee Summer Music Festival and Gettysburg College Orchestra, the double concerto for cello and piano and flexible ensemble is one of only a few double concertos specifically written for cello and piano.

Additional events include a week-long residency at Arizona's Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts, and a special lecture by Ms. Farny in October titled, "Stepping off the Pedestal: The Metamorphosis from Feminine Muse to Woman Composer," as the 44th recipient of  SUNY Fredonia's Kaling Award.

About Ekstasis Duo
Pianist Eliran Avni and cellist Natasha Farny present compelling programming that celebrates masterpieces alongside the secret jewels of lesser-known works. With a focus on storytelling that pinpoints an aspect of the human condition or creates an atmosphere through sound, Ekstasis Duo's concerts offer solo and chamber music works, and occasionally incorporate multimedia, such as readings, video, and visual art.

A talented artist of significant versatility, sensitivity, and experience, cellist Natasha Farny is an accomplished soloist and chamber musician who has performed throughout the United States, Germany, Italy, The Czech Republic and Brazil. Her recordings can be heard on the Centaur label.

Praised as possessing both "ironclad technique" and "ample suppleness" by The New York Times, pianist Eliran Avni is a respected force in the contemporary classical music scene. Having made his debut with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Zubin Mehta at age 17, he has since appeared as a soloist and chamber music collaborator throughout Europe, North and South America, and in his native Israel. His recordings can be heard on the Naxos, Tzadik and SHUFFLE Concert labels.

Since their debut in 2018, Ekstasis Duo has appeared on reputable series including New York City’s Merkin Hall, Saugerties ProMusica, and Rochester’s Live from Hochstein. Postponed engagements due to COVID-19 include California’s L'Ermitage Foundation in Los Angeles and Tateuchi Hall at the Finn Center at Mountainview, New York’s Community School of Music and Arts, Bard College, Saugerties ProMusica, The Eastman School of Music, and GetClassical Revelation Gallery.

Ekstasis Duo releases their first recording, "Women's Voices," in fall 2021, featuring works by Louise Farrenc, Clara Schumann, Lera Auerbach, Nina Simone, Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, and Ethel Smyth. In addition to the CD, Ekstasis Duo has given lectures on the topic, mostly online. Audiences have included an international musicological conference in Lucca, Italy, and students in Brazil, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan and New York.
