Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival celebrates

40th Anniversary Season- June 27 - August 8 2021

The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival in North Carolina, one of the largest and longest-running Festivals in the nation, celebrates its 40th anniversary season this summer, all live with a blockbuster lineup.

The world's greatest music, internationally-known performers, beautifully intimate settings, the cool mountains, fine dining and art, theatre and film, golf, shopping--make your plans now to join us for an unforgettable summer at the Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival as we celebrate our milestone 40th anniversary season of chamber music at its best!

The season kicks off with a special program on June 27 at the beautiful Bascom Center for the Arts celebrating both music AND art- an exhibit of the incredible original art which has been created for the HCCMF Program Book covers and posters for the last 20 years paired with a performance of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” in the galleries.

The season proper begins with a bang on July 5th welcoming the legendary Pinchas Zukerman returning for a special one-time-only concert. Virtuoso violinist Cho-Liang Lin makes his Festival debut leading a crack group of players in Mendelssohn’s thrilling Octet for Strings, and also new this season are harpist Bridget Kibbey – called “the Yo-Yo Ma of the harp”- entrancing audiences with a program called “The Enchanted Harp”; and piano wizard Michael Gurt in “The Virtuoso Piano”. The brilliant young Rasa String Quartet perform as well as the dynamic Grammy Award-winning cellist Zuill Bailey, and on the 40th anniversary, Festival Founder Dr. Lucas Drew will be honored with a “Founder’s Celebration” featuring the ever-popular Trout Quintet by Schubert. The final Gershon-Cohn Gala on August 8th brings together two brilliant favorites- The Eroica Trio and violinist David Coucheron with the Festival Chamber Orchestra in “The Eight Seasons”- Vivaldi’s masterpieces interspersed with Astor Piazzolla’s seductive “4 Seasons of Buenos Aires” performed by the Eroica.

The Festival is also thrilled to finally be moving into our new Cashiers home venue at the stunning new hall in the Village Green!

These are only some of the highlights of the 40th anniversary season- also offered are Festival Feasts, engaging Salons, an Interlude Concert- and bring the kids (of ALL ages!) to enjoy our Family Concert and ice cream social after, featuring “Peter and the Wolf” narrated by Lois Reitzes, the voice of classical radio in Atlanta.
