JOSÉ SEREBRIER AND HIS UNIQUE CAREER

CELEBRATED WITH NEW CD AND BOOK

New York, NY (5/17/21):

With more than three hundred recordings to his name and multiple GRAMMY nominations and LATIN GRAMMY awards, José Serebrier is in that rare pantheon of musical eminences who are both conductors and composers.  Admired across the globe, he has proven for several decades that he is not only one of the most original composers, but that he is also a major conductor for our times, one which the legendary Leopold Stokowski has called “the greatest master of orchestral balance.”

Now, that combination of accomplishments is being celebrated with a new book – “José Serebrier, Portraits of the Maestro” – by Michael Faure, with a Foreword by John Corigliano (Rowan Littlefield Publishers/Amadeus Press) to be published in August, and a new CD of his compositions, released this May – “Last Tango Before Sunrise” (Reference Recordings). By coincidence, both book and CD recount the Serebrier trajectory from beginnings to the present day.

The works on the new album use a variety of musical ensembles ranging from solo piano, a percussion ensemble, to full orchestra playing tangos, flute concerti and a harp concerto written during his tenure as Composer-in-Residence of the Cleveland Orchestra at the invitation of George Szell.

In many ways, the book is also an artistic journey, the product of conversations with many musical luminaries (also including some bizarre episodes with Salvador Dali).  They are further accompanied by an updated and complete discography, a list of his 100 published compositions and critical observations by major music historians.

Most of all, it shows Maestro Serebrier to be a master raconteur in addition to his composing and conducting brilliance.
