On Friday, March 19 2021, Isotopia Records (www.isotopiarecords.com) will release Tropical Thunderstorm. The album features ten tracks that span a diversity of genres including pop rock anthems featuring Hauman’s inimitable vocals, jazz-based instrumental pieces and compelling structured improvisations.

One of the most versatile performing artists on today’s contemporary music scene, Hauman’s rich imagination continually leads her to new realms of self-expression and artistic creation. In Tropical Thunderstorm she explores the complex facets of desire: erotic, platonic, insatiable, restrained yet most profoundly, unknowable and driving us towards and away from our most enlightened and darkest impulses.

The concept for the album came about during a violent storm. As Hauman relates. “I wrote the title track in Jamaica during an actual tropical thunderstorm. My emotions were all over the place, something I often experience when I begin channeling music. I was overcome by a tidal wave of melody, harmony, lyrics and emotion. It’s like an interior storm I can’t control.”

Tropical Thunderstorm is the next step in the musical partnership of Hauman and percussionist / multi-instrumentalist, Ross Pederson. Their collaboration has resulted in the internationally critically acclaimed albums Falling Into Now (2015), High Tides (2019) and the EPs The Quarantine Trilogy parts 1,2 and 3. These recordings mark the evolution and progression of Hauman’s journey from opera singer to  singer/songwriter to pianist/composer and presently to a place where she brings all of these disciplines together. The recording was co-produced by Hauman and Pederson.

Tropical Thunderstorm will be distributed as a CD by Naxos in North America and by Proper Music Distribution and their affiliates in the UK, Europe and Asia and will be available in physical and online shops across these territories. Digitally the album will be released by Naxos Mar. 5^th on all major streaming and download platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, Soundcloud, Deezer, etc.

ABOUT CONSTANCE HAUMAN

Pianist, singer, songwriter and producer, Constance Hauman is renowned in the worlds of indie rock, jazz and classical music. She has release two critically acclaimed albums of her own songs, High Tides (2019) and Falling Into Now and a series of EPs titled, The Quarantine Trilogy. The Guardian cited Falling Into Now one of the Best Albums of 2015.

She is the music director, keyboardist and producer for the soul, rock, funk band Miss Velvet and the Blue Wolf which has toured worldwide as the opening act for George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic.

In November 2019 she made her Vienna State Opera debut in composer, Olga Neuwirth’s adaptation of Orlando which featured costumes by Rei Kawakubo.

She is the founder and director of New York-based Isotopia Records.

Hauman was a protégé of Leonard Bernstein and has sung over 2,000 performances of opera and hundreds of concerts with a wide array of international companies including the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera National de Paris, Berlin Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, London Symphony and London Philharmonia etc.
