Sunday, October 4 at 3:00 P.M.

The acclaimed Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo will perform a LIVE and IN-PERSON concert with members of the Hunterdon Symphony at Rosemont Valley Farm in Stockton, New Jersey on Sunday, October 4th at 3:00 P.M.  The program will include Handel’s Concerto in B-Flat Major and Cavatina by Stanley Myers, from the Deerhunter under the direction of conductor Lawrence Kursay.  The duo will also perform Música Incidental Campesina, by renowned Cuban composer Leo Brouwer and Lennon/McCartney’s Beatlerianas - The Fool on the Hill arranged by Brouwer.  The concert will also include additional selections for small ensembles.  Admission is $20 per vehicle and can be paid at the gate.  Audience members may choose to remain in their vehicles and listen to the performance streamed on a FM radio band or use their own chairs and blankets to sit outside, observing social distancing.  Masks are required at all times.  The farm is located at 700 Rosemont-Ringoes Road.  Gates will open at 2:00 P.M. and close 15 minutes prior to the start of the concert.  Rain date is October 25.

Hailed as a "revelation to hear" by The Washington Post, the Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo is recognized for their matchless technique, ensemble precision, and innovative programming, combined with their commitment to expanding the repertoire for guitar duo. Widely recognized as an influential ensemble both in the US and abroad, they perform a broad range of repertoire that spans baroque and classical works to Spanish and Latin American rhythms. In addition to their phenomenal musicianship, they are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of guitar players through their many educational endeavors and are Directors of the New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes.  Founders and Artistic Directors of Raritan River Music, they have commissioned works from Lowell Lieberman, Pulitzer prize winner Paul Moravec and Augusta Read Thomas among others. Concert tours have taken Michael Newman and Laura Oltman to world cultural capitals and premiere venues across five continents and their discography of over 10 titles showcases their diversity.

Their world premiere recording The Book of Imaginary Beings: The Music of Leo Brouwer is dedicated to his works and the centerpiece is a new guitar duo of the same name, El Libro de los Seres Imaginarios (The Book of Imaginary Beings). Other works on the album include 2 Lennon/McCartney songs as arranged by Brouwer entitled Beatlerianas - She's Leaving Home and The Fool on the Hill, and Musica Incidental Campesina - a collection of 4 vignettes combining numerous Cuban folk music with contemporary musical influences. The MusicMasters recording was recently released on a 180 gram vinyl audiophile LP pressing, digital download, and will be available on CD next month.

Through their groundbreaking new music-commissioning program, Newman & Oltman have built a unique repertoire of works for two guitars by composers such as Paul Moravec, Augusta Read Thomas, Lowell Liebermann, Dušan Bogdanovic, Arthur Kampela and Roberto Sierra. Their artistry has been captured on nearly a dozen acclaimed recordings and has been recognized by grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Chamber Music America and ASCAP.
