The Rolston String Quartet has announced the appointment of violinist Jason Issokson and cellist Yoshika Masuda to the ensemble.

The two new members will replace violinist Emily Kruspe and cellist Jonathan Lo.

Jason is a graduate of the Manhattan School of Music and the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Midori. As a former member of the Argus String Quartet, he participated in quartet residencies at The Juilliard School and Yale School of Music.

Yoshi studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music, and the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music, where his principal mentors were Georg Pedersen, Hannah Roberts, and Ralph Kirshbaum. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Music at California Lutheran University.

“After many months of planning, we are thrilled to welcome violinist Jason Issokson and cellist Yoshi Masuda to the RSQ family,” says Hezekiah Leung, the quartet’s violist. “They are both incredibly accomplished musicians and are already bringing a fantastic new energy, inspiration, and passion to the group. We would like to thank Jonathan and Emily for our incredible journey together through these years, and we wish them the very best as they embark on new musical journeys. They have put an indelible stamp on this ensemble and have contributed so much to this quartet, both artistically and personally. They will be dearly missed.”

ABOUT THE ROLSTON STRING QUARTET:

The Rolston String Quartet – Luri Lee (violin), Jason Issokson (viola), Hezekiah Leung (viola), and Yoshika Masuda (cello) – was formed in 2013 during a summer chamber music residency at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity in Banff, Alberta. It takes its name from Canadian violinist Thomas Rolston, founder and longtime director of the Banff Centre’s Music and Sound Programs. First-prize winner of the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition, and the 2018 recipient and first international ensemble chosen for Chamber Music America's prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award, the quartet continues to receive acclamation and recognition for musical excellence.

The Rolston String Quartet is represented in the United States by New York-based Sciolino Artist Management.
