Monteux School & Music Festival

Founded in 1943 by internationally renowned French-born conductor Pierre Monteux, the Monteux School & Music Festival (MSMF) is located in the inspirational, lush, green countryside of Northern Maine at the head of Frenchman Bay near Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. 2020 would have been the organization's 77th season physically in Hancock, Maine; online events will be offered instead due to COVID-19. 2020 is also the 25th anniversary of Music Director and conductor Michael Jinbo, which the organization now plans to celebrate in 2021. Jinbo is a direct connection to the conducting legacy of the late Maestro Monteux, having studied directly under Monteux's student and successor, Charles Bruck. Jinbo is only the third Music Director of MSMF.

Aspiring to be the finest summer training program and festival of its kind, MSMF was founded on Monteux's belief that conductors should play in the orchestra while observing the lessons of their colleagues, thus learning from both sides of the podium. An important part of Northern Maine's summer culture, the school offers an intensive six-week program that includes a series of symphonic, chamber and children's concerts in a creative, supportive environment. Up to 18 conductors and 50 plus instrumentalists are selected to attend each season. Alumni have gone on to successful careers in the orchestral, opera and education fields throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and Asia.
