Composer Matt Novack Scoring Netflix’s Upcoming Comedy Series 'Medical Police'

January 2, 2020 | By Jordan Von Netzer

Composer Matt Novack will be scoring Netflix’s latest half-hour comedy series Medical Police. Some of Novack’s previous credits include LD Entertainment’s Dog Days, Fullscreen’s Filthy Preppy Teen$, Adult Swim’s NTSF:SD:SUV and the Youtube Original documentary State of Pride.  He is most known for his score to Adult Swim’s long running hit series, Childrens Hospital.

Medical Police follows two American physicians stationed at a pediatric hospital in São Paulo, Brazil, who discover a civilization-threatening virus. They are then recruited as government agents in a race against time and around the world to find a cure and uncover a dark conspiracy. The series is considered a spin-off of the Emmy-winning Adult Swim series Childrens Hospital. The show is being produced by Childrens Hospital executive producers Rob Corddry, Jonathan Stern and David Wain and co-executive producer Krister Johnson.

Novack says, “I’m excited to return to a world that I had spent seven seasons in with this sequel / spin-off to Childrens Hospital.  Collaborating with this team again has been a joy, and I’m very proud of the score.  It’s something a little different than people are used to hearing from me.”

Medical Police will be premiering on Netflix January 10, 2020. The series stars Erinn Hayes, Rob Huebel, Sarayu Blue, Malin Akerman, Ken Marino, and Lake Bell. Guest stars also include Jason Schwartzman and Fred Melamed among others.

ABOUT MATT NOVACK:

Matt Novack is a composer who has enlivened countless projects across film and television. From creating feature length scores to accompany the performances of comedic stars like Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler, to rousing short tunes for manic adult swim shorts and Hollywood trailers, Matt is a composer who understands the crucial role music plays in capturing the manic energy of comedy.

A longtime collaborator with fellow composer extraordinaire, Craig Wedren, Novack has also provided additional music for Universal’s Role Models & Wanderlust, Showtime’s The United States of Tara, and Netflix’s Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. In 2014, Novack created his first feature length score, for Lionsgate’s They Came Together, starring Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler. In the same year, he contributed music for another feature length comedy, A Better You, starring Brian Huskey, Matt Walsh, and Andy Daly, and in 2015 created the score for the dark comedy Spare Change, which was co-directed by Arturo Guzman and Jonathan Talbert.

A Chicago Native, Matt began his career as a staff composer for the Selectracks Music Library, where he worked on the trailer scores for projects such as We Are Marshall, Charlotte’s Web, and Monster House. The tremendous variety of these projects transformed Matt into a versatile creative, someone able to very rapidly adapt to the needs of a project, and create music accordingly. This skill became increasingly apparent over the course of 2016 when, while working on Childrens Hospital. Novack also created music for a series of short horror films directed by Calvin Main, in collaboration with Crypt TV.

Matt is a classically trained composer and percussionist whose musical palette includes sweeping orchestral scores for high profile cinematic moments, as well as quirky and weird cues to uplift intimate comedic beats. Matt lives in Los Angeles with his wife.
