Impresiones Inspiradas: Arts and Community Together

On Sunday December 8, 2019 at 3:00 PM, guitarist Stanley Alexandrowicz will perform the World Premiere of Impresiones Inspiradas por las pinturas de Luis Martinez Piar, composed by Robert W. Butts.  The concert will occur at Rose Hall, The Madison Community Arts Center,           10 Kings Road, Madison, New Jersey 07940.  More than a premiere of a new composition, the concert is an example of diverse communities coming together through the arts.

Robert W. Butts is a composer, conductor, and educator.  He is conductor of The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, an ensemble he has led for 23 years and developed from a special period repertoire ensemble into New Jersey’s most diverse orchestra performing music from the 17th through the 21st centuries.  His compositions have been performed throughout the world and have been featured on WQXR Performance Today. He received the 2019 Exemplary Leader Award from the Morris County Chamber of Commerce and was named 2019 Artist of the Year by The New York Classical Music Society.

Luis Martinez Piar grew up in New Jersey where “music and art were parts of our family.” His paintings are inspired by the spirit of his life and heritage.  He also sings, plays guitar, and tells tales.

Stanley Alexandrowicz is an internationally renowned guitarist.  He has performed across Europe, often performing works composed by Maestro Butts and other New Jersey composers.

The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey sponsored Stanley Alexandrowicz in a recital of music at the Dover Public Library in collaboration with the exciting LatinX ConeXiones project sponsored by The Arts & Culture Collaborative of Morris County.   There, Maestro Butts and Maestro Alexandrowicz met painter Luis Martinez Piar.  An immediate connection was formed, and Maestro Butts felt inspired by Luis’s paintings to compose a suite of pieces for Stanley to perform.

Working together with MACA (Madison Arts & Culture Alliance), Madison Downtown Development, Morris Arts, The Arts & Culture Collaborative, LatinX ConeXiones, and The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey, the three artists will present the World Premiere on December 8.

“This represents the ultimate in communities working together,” Maestro Butts commented.  “It’s exciting to compose music for a wonderful guitarist inspired by a wonderful painter and to collaborate – to come together – with so many terrific organizations dedicated not just to the arts – but to the arts as a vital and living part of the community, an invitation to all artists and all members of the community to join together to celebrate life.”

Maestro Alexandrowicz will also perform selections by Astor Piazzolla, Manuel Ponce, and Hector Angulo.   Luis Martinez Piar’s paintings will be on display during the performance.  Mr. Martinez will also sing and play guitar while inviting the audience to participate by using his percussion instruments and share the magic.

Tickets are only $20 and can be purchased at the door or online at www.baroqueorchestra.org/impresiones
