2nd International Festival of Colonia (Uruguay)

Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay (World Heritage Site - UNESCO) contributes its unique beauty as the setting for the 2nd International Festival of Colonia between November 13 and 17, 2019. The only festival in the region that presents classical music, jazz, tango, folklore, cinema, theater and visual arts will present established and emerging artists from the United States, Argentina, Brazil, England, Mexico, Singapore, Taiwan and Uruguay.

 

The musical portion of the festival will feature the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo under the direction of Ligia Amadio and the Camerata of the International Festival of Colonia under the direction of Jooyoung Ahn accompanying eight distinguished pianists and the soprano Sofia Mara in Concertos by J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart, the jazz quintet Benny Goodman, the jazz singer Juan Nevani, the tango quintet La Mufa, the Trio Cruz del Sur in the best of Argentine folklore, a piano recital and a chamber music concert.  Other shows include the award-winning play "La Incapaz" by Carlos Dominguez, silent movies with live music, three nights of cabaret, a tribute to the great Mexican poet Amado Nervo and a visual arts exhibition curated by the Pablo Atchugarry Foundation.

 

Under the artistic direction of pianist Enrique Graf, the International Festival of Colonia enjoyed huge media attention and full houses in 2018. During the second week of November, annually, the festival aims to become a cultural event of international significance. 


Festival tickets ($U3,500) for the eight shows at the Bastion of Carmen, the Stella Cinema and the AFE Cultural Center and tickets for the three Cabaret ($U300 each) are available at www.festivalcolonia.org/entradas .
