The New York Virtuoso Singers Presents Its Choral Composition Competition Winners and More on April 13 at Manhattan’s Advent Lutheran Church

The New York Virtuoso Singers, Harold Rosenbaum, Conductor and Artistic Director, will present Choral Composition Competition Winners and More, the second event of their 2018-19 concert season on Saturday, April 13 at 8:00 PM at Advent Lutheran Church, Broadway at 93^rd St. New York, NY.

After contacting every high school choral teacher in New York State, NYVS commissioned five gifted student composers to write choral works for them. Yusei Hata, Peter Mainetti, Paige Pearson, Justin Taveras, and Alex Whittington will all have their new works performed.

In addition, NYVS has had an ongoing competition of its own for more than ten years. In this concert, the most recent winners will be presented: Guy Barash: Stimmen (World Premiere), Elizabeth Skola Davis: In Memory (World Premiere), Russell Horton: Evening Waterfall (World Premiere), Louis Karchin: Hymns from the Dark (American Premiere) and Thomas Stumpf: season of sorrow.

The choir will also perform the American Premiere of Thea Musgrave’s Missa Brevis. Ninety-year old Musgrave was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Music 2017 by Queen Elizabeth, which was presented to her in Buckingham Palace.

Maestro Rosenbaum will host a pre-concert discussion with the commissioned composers at 7:30 PM.
