Kent Nagano | New concert and opera season in Hamburg | 2019/20

Kent Nagano, General Music Director of the Hamburg State Opera and Chief Conductor of the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg, has recently announced the new opera and concert season 2019/20 together with Artistic Director Georges Delnon and John Neumeier, Director and Chief Choreograph of the Hamburg Ballett John Neumeier.

At the Hamburg State Opera Kent Nagano will conduct a new production of Shostakovich’s opera The Nose in September 2019, staged by Karin Beier. The premiere will be shown open air simultaneously on a screen a the Jungfernstieg in the center of Hamburg on the waterfront of the Inner Alster. Together with stage director Dmitri Tcherniakov, Kent Nagano will present a new production of Strauss‘ Elektra in April 2020. As part of the Musikfest Hamburg 2020, the Hamburg State Opera will present Olivier Messiaen’s only opera Saint François d'Assise at the Elbphilharmonie as a scenographical version conceived by Kent Nagano and Georges Delnon.

The General Music Director will also conduct revival performances of Wagner’s Parsifal and Lohengrin, Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Strauss‘ Ariadne auf Naxos and Berg’s Lulu.

With the Philharmonic State Orchestra Hamburg Kent Nagano will perform an academy concert as a public open air concert on the Rathausmarkt in Hamburg in August.

In January the orchestra and its Chief Conductor will perform the world premiere of Pascal Dusapin‘s organ concert „Waves“ together with organist Iveta Apkalna. They will also present Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis on the occasion of the composer‘s anniversary in 2020 in the Elbphilharmonie.

Together with the Philharmonic State Orchestra, Kent Nagano will go on a Japan tour in October and November 2019.
