Mezzo-Soprano J'Nai Bridges to make her Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall debut with pianist Mark Markham, December 13

At the heels of her highly-acclaimed role debut as Kasturbai in Satyagraha with LA Opera, the mezzo-soprano returns to New York City for her Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall debut alongside pianist Mark Markham on December 13, and performances of John Adams’ El Niño December 21 & 22

For immediate release — New York, NY — Mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges makes her highly-anticipated Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall Debut on December 13 in a recital with pianist Mark Markham. The program showcases the breadth of her music-making with a mix of contemporary and core repertoire, from Danielpour to Mahler and Ravel, along with songs of faith and spirituals including works by Undine S. Moore and Margaret Bonds that she feels express her views as a woman of color living in America today.

Bridges will also make her debut with the American Modern Opera Company for the chamber version premiere of John Adams’ oratorio El Niño on December 21 and 22, joining soprano Julia Bullock and countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo. This radical reinterpretation of the traditional Christmas concert will take place in the spiritual setting of The Met Cloisters. The reinterpretation focuses on the intimate relationship between mother and child and will emphasize the essential contributions of women in an otherwise male-centric biblical canon.
