For immediate release – Houston, TX – Force of Nature, ROCO’s second Unchambered series concert for the 2018–19 season, will continue the ensemble’s commitment to both new music and women in the arts, by featuring principal flutist Brook Ferguson and works by composer Stephanie Ann Boyd. The Unchamberedseries spotlights ROCO soloists or small chamber groups in programs curated by individual ROCO musicians, and this concert focuses on music for flute, oboe, cello, and piano. Houston’s MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston) hosts the evening of nature-themed music on December 8.
Ferguson will be joined by pianist Susan Grace, oboist Alecia Lawyer, and cellist Richard Belcher for performances of works by Stephanie Ann Boyd, George Crumb, and Michael Gandolfi. Boyd’s works will bookend the evening, opening with Trio Fanfare for flute, oboe, and cello, and concluding with the world premiere of a special quartet commissioned by ROCO. Crumb’s atmospheric Vox Balaenae (Voice of the Whale) for electric flute, cello, and amplified piano will round out the program along with Gandolfi’s Geppetto’s Workshop for flute and piano.
