Quintet of the Americas Presents Americans in Paris and Back Again Concert on April 20 at National Opera Center in New York, New York

April 19, 2018

Quintet of the Americas, one of this country’s most renowned woodwind quintets, will present Americans in Paris and Back Again, a program that explores the influence on American composers of Nadia Boulanger, the famous 20th century composition teacher, on Friday, April 20 @ 7:30 PM at Marc A. Scorca Hall of the National Opera Center, 330 Seventh Ave., 7th Floor in Manhattan.

Boulanger's influence was far and wide, with over 1,200 composers coming from all over the world to study with her. In this concert the Quintet will perform music from composers who were directly influenced by her, including Astor Piazzolla’s Libertango, Irving Fine’s neoclassical Partita, Elliott Carter’s Woodwind Quintet of 1948, and selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Candide,  as well as Bruce Stark’s Americana Wind Quintet from 2009, one of the next generation of composers who felt her influence. The program will include an historic video of an interview with Madame Boulanger and the New York Premiere of Louise Talma's Woodwind Quintet.  Ms. Talma was also a student of Boulanger’s.

Tickets for the April 20 event are $20/ $10 students and seniors, available at https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/3381464. More information at https://www.facebook.com/events/1546066962186519/.
