Martina Arroyo Foundation's Upcoming Exciting Events!

March 22, 2016 | By Sadue Rucker
Publicity Director
We are proud to announce the summer events of the celebrated Martina Arroyo Foundation’s Young Artist program, Prelude to Performance! Our talented young artists for 2016 present Giacomo Puccini’s timeless story of love and loss, La Bohème and Johann Strauss II sparkling romp, Die Fledermaus, July 7-10 at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, New York City. The operas are traditionally staged and costumed with orchestra in original language with supertitles. La Bohème is conducted by International conductor Maestro, Willie Anthony Waters and directed by International director, Ian Campbell. Die Fledermaus is conducted by Metropolitan Opera conductor, Maestro Steven Crawford and directed by Metropolitan Opera director, Gina Lapinski.

This is our 12thseason and our alumni are singing in prestigious houses throughout the world. They are performing at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Wiener Staastsoper, Staatoper Berlin, Paris Opera, Glyndebourne, Rome Opera, San Francisco and Chicago Lyric Opera. Some are Metropolitan Opera Competition winners and recipients of the Richard Tucker, Loren Zachary, George London, Gerda Lissner, Licia Albanese-Puccini, Opera Index, Queen Sofija and Montserrat Caballé competition awards. We are proud of their continuing success. In addition to our fully staged operas in July, the MAF Prelude to Performance program offers a Master Series in June. A Master Series is an opportunity for Prelude’s emerging young artists to work with important professionals of the opera world. This summer our Master Series contributors are: Metropolitan Opera Bass-Baritone, James Morris; Metropolitan Opera Soprano, Reri Grist; Metropolitan Opera Mezzo-Soprano, Susan Quittmeyer; Metropolitan Opera Commentator, Ira Siff and International Conductor, Maestro Anton Coppola. The series will be held at Hunter College, New York City. Details can be found at www.martinaarroyofdn.org.

The Martina Arroyo Foundation is active throughout the year participating in the music education and the artistic life of the city of New York.

This spring, selected Prelude Alumni will participate in Opera 360, a collaboration of Inter School Orchestras, the Metropolitan Opera Guild and the Martina Arroyo Foundation. They will perform in concert with the young instrumentalists of the Inter School Orchestra at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall and Chelsea Piers in New York City. In addition, Prelude singers are participating in school outreach programs, presenting selections from La Nozze di Figaro and Magic Flute to students who have never had an opera experience before. It is a big success! Since 2006, students and teachers from NYC’s five boroughs have attended a final dress rehearsal of one of our summer operas.

Prelude Alumni will also be part of our First Inaugural Spring Luncheon, April 3 at the Essex House, New York City. Details of all these events and other information can be found at www.martinarroyofdn.org

Ms. Arroyo continues to teach, advise and nurture during the Prelude to Performance summer sessions and is the guiding hand in all the Martina Arroyo Foundation’s activities. The Martina Arroyo Foundation’s Prelude to Performance program is tuition-free with stipends for young, aspiring opera singers.
